About the Book

You don't have to earn your rest.

For years, many of us have carried a quiet exhaustion we didn't have permission to name — pushing through grief, swallowing anger, mistaking burnout for a lack of faith. We've been told to pray harder, serve more, and keep going. And somewhere along the way, rest started to feel like failure.

Permission to Rest tells a different story. Drawn from the author's own journey and a decade of walking alongside women through theirs, it weaves many real experiences into one honest narrative — a story of grief that turns to hurt, hurt that turns to anger, the slow collapse of burnout, depression, and the deep wounds of trauma. Alongside it, Scripture and the often-overlooked work of the Holy Spirit point the way toward healing.

This is not a book about doing more. It's a book about finally setting things down — and discovering that the rest God offers was never a reward for the strong. It was always a gift for the weary. Whoever you are, and however you got this tired, you will find yourself in these pages.

If your soul is weary, this book is for you.

About the Author

Hi, I'm Dori.

For the past ten years, I've had the privilege of supporting women through burnout, grief, and the slow work of healing — holistically, as whole people, not just symptoms. My background is in Health Care Management, with a specialization in Sports Therapy and Psychological Health, but most of what I know about rest I didn't learn in a classroom. I learned it the hard way.

The story in Permission to Rest isn't only mine. It's my story woven together with the stories of the women I've walked with — one composite journey, so that whoever you are and however you got this tired, you might find yourself in these pages.

I'm a believer, a wife, and a mum. I've lived in four English-speaking countries and now call Germany home, working in both German and English. And yes — I'm still practicing what I preach, one permission slip at a time.
